In the United States, new and expensive multi-drug therapies are having considerable success at prolonging the health of HIV-infected people. But in Africa, where the spread of HIV is at least ten times as fast as it is in the US, these therapies are not affordable. In fact, many hospitals in central Africa lack the resources to test the blood supply for HIV.
